History of MIRD
The Movement for Islamic Research and Da’wah (MIRD) wasfounded in October 2015 by Shaikh Kawsu Sanneh, a young Muslimscholar from Perai Tenda, a village located in the Upper River Regionof The Gambia, West Africa. MIRD was established to address thespiritual, educational, and humanitarian challenges facing Muslimcommunities in The Gambia and beyond. From its inception, theorganization has focused on promoting Islamic education and unity,supporting vulnerable populations, and providing free education andhumanitarian aid to those in need. Over its first decade, MIRD hasbroadened its impact through a variety of key initiatives, including:

Education programs, ranging from foundationalcourses to advanced studies in Islamic and global sciences. -
Humanitarian relief efforts, such as food distribution, vocationalsupport, and clean water initiatives — benefiting communitiesthroughout The Gambia and beyond. - Community outreach and unity programs, aimed at bridging gaps and fostering cooperation among diverse Muslim communities.
The organization is structured into several keybodies and departments, including an ExecutiveCouncil, a Consultative Council, a Diaspora Chapter,a Sisterhood Division, and departments forResearch, Da’wah and Publications, Finance &Administration, Welfare, and Projects &Humanitarian Services. It maintains representativesacross Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas toadvance Islamic development and human welfareglobally through research, da’wah, and charitableinitiatives, while also fostering collaboration throughdiplomacy and international engagement.
